Tips on Growing Fynbos
Soil: Needs to be very well drained
Fertilizer: Compost, BUT no Mushroom Compost, Bounceback or anything Organic
Try to cause as little damage / desturbens to the roots as possible. No cultvation close to the roots either. Weeding by hand only. Moles can also cause damage to the roots.
Spraying with a fungicide (Funginex or Dyathane) is advisable, because it helps to minimise the chance of fungal infection via the roots.
Building a small shelter round the newly planted plant, with something like small branches of shrubs or “Slangbos”, will protect the plant from shaking & the roots from being broken off by the wind. (Thus easy access for fungal diseases into the plant.)
A thick layer of mulch is also a good idea. It protect the roots against heat and keeps it cool. It also helps to keep the weeds down.
PLEASE NO BONEMEAL OR SUPERPHOSFATE
